Robert D. Kroupa, 65, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, following a brief illness. He was born August 1, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert W. Kroupa and Doloris (Horan) Kroupa. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a baccalaureate degree in psychology. After graduation, he worked for the U.S. Department of Labor in Rapid City, South Dakota as a program administrator. After leaving federal employment, he pursued an abbreviated career as an alligator wrestler at the Reptile Gardens near Rapid City. He retired in 1999 after 20 years of employment with Penford Products Company where he worked as an operations manager at the Idaho Falls plant. He served with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. He enjoyed playing bridge, earning his life master in one year, and outdoor activities, which included skiing, backpacking, and exploring the Anasazi culture of the desert southwest. He was an enthusiastic traveler, having visited much of the world. On St. Valentine's Day in 1993, he married Patti Cleary in Sun Valley, Idaho. Patti passed away in 2000. While playing bridge, Robert met Donna Cosgrove who became his life partner. Together, they pursued a vigorous schedule of bridge tournaments and recreational travel. Donna and Bob enjoyed gardening, travel, and a house full of cats. Survivors include: Donna Cosgrove; a daughter, Sarah I. Kroupa of Idaho Falls; a sister, Rebecca Dalessandro of Alexandria, Virginia, and 2 brothers: Craig Kroupa of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jeffery Kroupa of Vinton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 3-6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. Following the visitation, there will be a gathering of family and friends at 7:30 p.m. at the Idaho Brewing Company in the brewery, 775 South Capital, Idaho Falls. Internment will take place at the Phelps Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa, at a later date. Bob's intellect and humor will be missed by the many friends he made through his world travels. He was an amazing father, husband, brother and friend. He will forever remain in the hearts of all of us. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made in Robert's name to the Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran St., Idaho Falls, Idaho, 83401.
