Grant Ronald "Ron" Long, 66, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2013, at his sister's home. He was under the care of Western Visiting Nurses. Ron was born April 24, 1947 in Rigby, Idaho to Grant V. and Marjorie Mary Flint Long. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1965. Ron graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelors degree in English. Ron worked as a pipe fitter at the Idaho National Laboratory for 36 years. He enjoyed fishing, mountaineering, hiking, & hunting. Ron was one of the few to successfully achieve a solo ascent to the top of the Grand Teton. He is survived by his sister; Colleen (Brad) Salmonson, of Idaho Falls; nephews, Matthew Grant LaRue, Bradley C-A Salmonson, Nathan Daniel Long, and Shane Patrick Long; Niece, Tara Marie Long; Sister-in-law, Donna Long; 3 aunts, 2 uncles, and several cousins. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother Burke R. Long. Private family services will be held at a later date.
