Ronald Otis Bate, 79, of Idaho Falls, died June 30, 2011 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. He was born February 20, 1932, in Idaho Falls to Peter Earl and Ethel Ruth Walker Bate. He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1950. Ron enlisted in the US Army in 1951 and served until 1953 in the German Occupational Forces. He married Alice Loraine Johnson on July 1, 1954 in Bozeman, Montana, she died on November 16, 2003. He was a lifetime resident of Idaho Falls. Ron worked for the Idaho National Laboratory for 25 years. Ron was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the Idaho Falls Eagles, Aerie 576, and a Life member of the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. His hobbies included lapidery and silversmithing. He is survived by his caregiver and dear friend Norma Ragsdale; a son, Brian Bate (Roberta) of Pueblo, Colorado 4 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Loraine Johnson; and his daughter Laura Dawn Bate Salinas. Funeral Services will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
