Obituary

Ronald Terrance (Terry) Hopkins was born on October 29, 1939, to Edgar Lester Hopkins and Grace Allen Hopkins, the last of eleven children. He grew up in Boise, Idaho, where he enjoyed causing all sorts of mischief. He graduated from Boise High School in 1957 and immediately joined the National Guard to serve his country. In 1959, he served God as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, teaching of Christ to the people of Australia.

On August 3, 1962, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Scott. Together, they raised five sons and two daughters in Idaho Falls. Terry was driven by his work ethic, building up the Hopkins Glass business, managing apartments, raising livestock, and tending gardens. He served in several leadership positions in his church, including being a bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, and a young men's leader who enjoyed playing practical jokes on the youth. He enjoyed serving in various responsibilities with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, being awarded the Silver Beaver in 1998. He made others feel welcome by giving them fantastic Dutch oven dinners and sending them home with squash he grew himself.

In 2003, he served another mission for his church in the Philippines with Eleanor by his side. Terry and Eleanor also served as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple and missionaries in the Idaho Pocatello Mission and the Pathway program. Later, Terry became the proud grandfather of 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, always happy to spoil them with ice cream bars and root beer floats.

After a battle with cancer, he passed away early in the morning on July 4, 2025, a fitting day for a man who loved God and his country. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work that his family admires and tries to emulate.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hopkins of Ammon, ID; children: Tim (Julie) Hopkins of Lake Orion, Michigan, Todd (Kristie) Hopkins of Tempe, Arizona, Travis (Jennifer) Hopkins of Fountain Valley, California, Tom (Dorinda) Hopkins of East Aurora, New York, Jill (Bryce) Bronson of Ammon, Idaho, Julie (David) White of Island Park, Idaho, and Tyler (Jessica) Hopkins of Iona, Idaho; and three sisters-in-law, Olive Hopkins of Provo, Utah, Wyona Hopkins of Meridian, Idaho, and Maryann Hopkins of Boise, Idaho.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Grace Hopkins; ten siblings; and one granddaughter, Cassidy Bronson.
