Obituary

Ruby Elizabeth Nielsen Smith, 92, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Gables of Ammon of natural causes. She was born on July 22, 1923, in Ammon, Bonneville, Idaho, to William J. and Mary Denning Nielson. Ruby attended Ammon Elementary and Ammon High School, graduating on May 16, 1941. She married Carroll L. Smith on August 19, 1941, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. They lived in Texas while Carroll served in the U.S. Army during World War II. They then moved back to Idaho where they lived and farmed in Ammon, Ririe, Osgood, Moreland, Atomic City and Iona, Idaho. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which was always important to her. She served as a Primary teacher and accompanist, Beehive and Gleaner teacher, Mutual Presidency, Relief Society Presidency and board member. She enjoyed decorating and keeping her home lovely, playing the piano, growing plants, sewing and crochet. Survivors include: one daughter: Sonja Griffeth (Floyd) of McKinney, Texas; two sons: David C. Smith (Janet) of Iona and Monty D. Smith (Becky) of Georgetown, Idaho; a sister, Myrna Anderson (Delmar); three sisters-in-law: Kendra McDaniel, Carolyn Burr, and Marla Workman.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll L. Smith; her parents; 6 brothers and 3 sisters; and one grandson. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary with Bishop Ken Louk officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to the thank the caring staff at the Gables of Ammon and Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their kind and loving care of our mother.
