Ruth Smith Harrop Christensen, 95, of Idaho Falls, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Lincoln Court. She was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.
Ruth was born on November 22, 1921, in Rigby, Idaho, to David Moroni and Mary Etta Rhoades Smith. She grew up in Rigby on the family farm and graduated from Rigby High School in 1938.
On January 4, 1942, she married Wren Joseph Harrop, at her parents' home in Rigby. Wren died in March 1976. She later married Wendell Christensen on January 24, 1989. Wendell died in October 2001. She worked for the Federal Land Bank in Rigby, when she was first married. After moving to Idaho Falls, she worked for the Deseret Distribution Center for the LDS Church, for 18 years. She spent the rest of her life taking care of her family in Idaho Falls.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served a mission in New York, New York in 1991, with Wendell. She served in the Young Women's, Primary Presidency, Relief Society President and in many other organizations.
Ruth enjoyed singing, camping, sewing and crocheting. She loved her family and enjoyed to go camping with her grandchildren in the Teton Forest. She would enjoy growing her own flower garden so she could have fresh flowers every summer. Ruth always had fun and enjoyed dancing at the Senior Center in Shelley, Idaho.
She is survived by her children: Susan (Richard) Van Orden, of Idaho Falls, ID, Lorraine (Allen) Hardy, of Brigham City, UT, Clair (Linda) Harrop, of Rexburg, ID; a sister, Dorothy Heardon, of Idaho Falls, ID; 15 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wren Harrop; her husband, Wendell Christensen; her grandson, Kendall Van Orden; her parents; and a sister Hazel Evans.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS 9th Ward, 395 2nd Street, with Bishop David Gemar officiating. The family will visit with friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
