Sanderson Lee Smith, 63, of Menan, Idaho, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Living Center on April 2, 2011. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. Sandy "Smitty" was born on January 29, l948, in Santa Monica, California, to Julian "Jack" Smith and Beatrice Austin Smith. He grew up in Vista, California and married Rosetta Louise in 1968. They later divorced. He had two sons which still reside in California. He graduated from an automotive transmission school and then moved to Idaho Falls when he was 27 years old. He met his best friend and companion in Idaho Falls in 1975, and they were inseparable since. He was an accomplished artist. He loved to draw and paint. He always enjoyed the outdoors, and went hunting and fished as often as he could. "Pop" was a very kind, compassionate man. He loved his family and his little dog "Gizzy". Gizzy was such a comfort to him, always. He loved animals of every kind. He was a loving father and grandfather to his honorary family, Zaren and Bobbi Adams, and Kylie and JaCee Adams. He is survived by the following:Companion, Lois Purcell, Menan, Idaho; Sister, Donna (Vern) Avery of Idaho Falls; Step-mother, Ole (Jack) Smith of Idaho Falls; Son, Timothy Smith of California; Son, Samuel Smith of California; Uncle, Cody Smith of California; Aunt, Sherry Boggs of California; Honorary Family, Zaren and Bobbi Adams of Ammon; Honorary Family, Kylie and JaCee Adams of Ammon. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jim Smith, mother, Beatrice Smith, father, Jack Smith, grandparents, Ionia and J.A. Smith, and Samuel and Olive Austin. Sandy was dearly loved and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary.
