IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sarah (Sally)
Chambers
April 11, 1938 – January 8, 2017
Sarah Carolyn Hillstrom Chambers (Sally to all her friends) left this world and became an angel in heaven early in the morning at her home on January 8, 2017. She was blessed to have her son Robert by her side. Sally was born April 11, 1938 in Pontiac, Michigan to Theodore Joseph Hillstrom and Dorothy Louise Storey Hillstrom. Sally was the oldest child and had one sister, Karen Hillstrom Campbell, who preceded her in death.
Sally grew up in East Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from East Grand Rapids High in 1956. She graduated in 1960 from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri with a B.S. in Vocational Home Economics and completed some graduate studies in Advanced Juvenile Delinquency and Special Education.
On May 24, 1963, Sally married James P. Chambers in Denver, Colorado, and they were later divorced. Sally and James had two children, Deborah Nan Chambers Dalgarn and Robert Paul Chambers.
Sally was a retired educator, who taught for one year in Grand Rapids, two years in Denver, Colorado, and twenty-nine years in the Idaho Falls School District at Central, O.E. Bell, Eagle Rock Junior High, and Taylorview Junior High. Sally was proud to be a teacher, was active in the IFEA throughout her teaching career, and served as the IFEA President one year.
After retirement, Sally discovered two new loves, the Docent Program at Tautphaus Park Zoo and the Intermountain Pet Therapy program. Sally was very creative and had many interests. She was an accomplished seamstress, an artist, a knitter, a pet lover, and loved taking vacations with her children and grandchildren. Sally was involved in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Crime Stoppers, Delta Kappa Gamma, a local knitting group, IFEA, coaching school groups, and activities for her children and grandchildren.
Anyone who knows Sally, especially as a Facebook friend, will remember her for her good luck greeting, "Rabbit, Rabbit," on the first day of each month.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Survivors include her children Deborah (William Dalgarn) and Robert (Gretchen), five grandchildren: Alexandria Stone (Steven Norberg), Katherine Stone, Samantha Stone (Brad Moore), Theodore Chambers, and Bailey Chambers, and four great-grandchildren: Karalynn Stone, Riley Norberg, Bennet Norberg, and Colton Moore.
