Obituary

Charles Scott Bates, 51, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019, in May, Idaho near his favorite hunting spot.

Scott was born on October 18, 1967, in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Ronald and Wanda Lou Justesen Bates. He grew up in Grandy, Utah and Idaho Falls, Idaho. He attended Clair E. Gale Junior High in Idaho Falls. He graduated from West Desert School in Utah in 1986.

On September 14, 1990, he married Marcy Ann Colvin.

He worked as a recreational vehicle mechanic for Action Motor Sports, American Carriage RV, and Marine and The Boat Shop.

Scott was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 22, 1977.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and teaching his kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews how to find the big bucks! Scott met everyone as a stranger and departed them as a friend.

He is survived by his mother, Wanda Lou Ferguson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his wife, Marcy Colvin Bates of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sons: Joseph (Ezmerelda) Gonzalez and James (Nicole) Bates both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his daughters: Sara (Kenny) Spotted Bear of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Amanda (J.T.) Erickson of Rigby, Idaho; his sisters: Kathy (Cory) Cox of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Cozzett (Ronn) Allen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Linda (Brian) Scott of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Rona (Mark) Williams of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his brother, Gary Bates of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 13 grandchildren and more nieces and nephews to count.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Ronald Bates; pops, Alan Kent Ferguson; grandparents, Cecil and Noma Bates; grandparents, Vernon and Pheobe Justesen; grandparents, Ray and Florence Ferguson; his lifelong best friend, Johnny Weekes.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Lee Ray Johnson of May, Idaho, Challis EMT's, and the numerous neighboring farmers who were on site to give help and support.

Funeral services will be held at 12 (noon), Friday, October 18, 2019, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls with Brian Scott officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2019, and one hour prior to services both at the mortuary. Interment will be at Ammon Cemetery.
