On June 22, 2023, our beloved Mother of 4, Grandmother of 18, Great-Grandmother of 33, and Great-Great-Grandmother of 1. Shirley Gail Lewis passed away with her loving family by her side at her home.
Shirley was the 8th child of 13 children born on January 7, 1932, to Raymond James Powell and Agnes Pearl Powell. She was born in Heman, Idaho. During her childhood, she lived in Egin, Rexburg & Sugar City Idaho. She was a cheerleader at Sugar Salem High School, graduating in 1949.
She attended Idaho Falls Business College and worked for Midland Elevator. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Valley Glass Co. for many years, where she was loved by all her Co-Workers. Shirley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she had many callings that she served faithfully in.
On November 8, 1951, she married her beloved Milford Lewis in Iona, Idaho. Later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1959. They were married for 63 years. Mel & Shirley welcomed their son Neil in January 1954. Their family was complete after they unselfishly & lovingly accepted 3 more children: Larry, Melanie, and Jackie into their home, legally adopting them in May 1990 and loving them as their own.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Lewis; her parents: James R. and Agnes Terry Powell; her brothers: Rulon L. Powell, Wendell R. Powell, Seth B. Powell, Gerald T. Powell, Thon H. Powell, and Don R. Powell; her sisters: Verla Powell, Eloise P. Muir, Evelyn P. Parkinson, and Phyllis P. Dreiling.
She is survived by her children: Neil Milford (Shelly) Lewis, Larry (Adele) Lewis, Melanie L. (Robert) Zitting, and Jacqueline (Gene) Webster; and her brothers: Leon J. (Phyllis) Powell and Lavar G. (Rebecca) Powell; and sisters-in-law: Edith Powell and Julia Zinie.
Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother was loved by all and was an exemplary example of sacrifice, love, and service.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the LDS church at 1925 E 49th South, Idaho Falls. Services will be live-streamed on www.facebook.com/coltrinmortuary. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 30, 2023, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services. The interment will be at Ammon Cemetery.
