Shirley Anderson

She was born October 11, 1923, in Ogden, Utah, to Walter Andrew Anderson and Helen Altmeyer Anderson. She grew up in the Shelley area. She attended Shelley High School and graduated in 1941 from Idaho Falls High School. She graduated from the Stevens Henager Business College in Salt Lake City.
In her early adult years, Shirley cared for her father and raised her youngest sister, Phila Sue.
On July 23, 1945, she married George "Bud" McBride in Idaho Falls. He passed away Jan. 3, 1982. They raised their family in the Coltman area and eventually moved to Idaho Falls. Shirley worked at various businesses in Idaho Falls before working for the City of Idaho Falls where she retired in the early 1990's.
Following her retirement, Shirley became involved with the Bonneville County Historical Society and the Museum of Idaho. She served as the board President, tour guide, and in other volunteer positions for the Museum. In 2005, she was awarded The Lois Nickum award for her service.
She was an active member of the PTA and Boy Scouts. She earned scouting's Extra Miler Award in 1990 for her work with Special Need scouters'.
Shirley was an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, civic leader, and card player.
She is survived by her sons: Danny Lee (Samantha) McBride of Boulder, Colorado; and Craig A. (Teena) McBride of Lewisville, Idaho; sisters: Jean (John) Larsen of Ucon; Phila Sue Dunlap of Jackson, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the east Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; a brother, Walter Tom Anderson and a great-grandson, Traiton Ray McBride.
As per Shirley's wishes the family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Details will be provided at that time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be sent to the Museum of Idaho in care of Shirley McBride Memorial Fund, 200 N. Eastern Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83402, or to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran St., Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
