Obituary

Shirley Ann Bates Murdock was born June 28, 1934, to David A. Bates and Myrtle A. Bates on the family farm in Rigby, Idaho.

Shirley died March 2, at the age of 74, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls of Lymphoma.

The youngest of 13 children, Shirley was welcomed by her 5 brothers , 7 sisters, and several nieces and nephews. She attended school in Rigby, worked and played on the farm, climbing trees and riding horses.

One night at a Halloween dance, Shirley met the love of her life, Geary J. Murdock. They were married at her sister's home in Idaho Falls on September 28, 1951. They had 2 sons, Steven and Alan.

Shirley worked 23 years at the sugar factory and 20 years at Roger Brothers. She enjoyed working hard, raising her sons and her garden. Though she worked hard, she was able to find time for the things she loved which were fishing, dancing, collecting, and shared Geary's passion for rock collecting.

Shirley truly loved her grandchildren, having them over as often as possible. Her pride in them was evident to all who knew her.

Geary and Shirley celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on September 28, 2001. The next April, Geary passed away.

Shirley is survived by her son, Alan (Lisa) Murdock of Victor, Idaho; 2 sisters: Bernice Hawker of Blackfoot and Donna Volmer of Ammon; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Geary Murdock; son, Steven Murdock, her parents, 5 brothers, and 5 sisters. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of EIRMC and Life Care of Idaho Falls for helping her through her final days.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Idaho Falls LDS 14th Ward Chapel, 651 Gladstone, Idaho Falls , with Bishop Blaine Eborn officiating.
