In loving memory of Sonja Kabel, a cherished soul who graced this world on July 18, 1969, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and departed peacefully on September 14, 2026, surrounded by love.

Sonja’s journey through life was a testament to her boundless creativity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Born to Arthur and Miyoko Bradshaw, Sonja was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Miyoko Bradshaw (Kato). She leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her children: Timothy (Samantha) Kabel and Chantal (John) Munson; her stepson, Gavin Rusnell; and her devoted life partner, Noel Rusnell; siblings: John, Noel, Pete, Charlene, Jeanne, and Jenny, who also carry forward her memory, along with her cherished pack of huskies: Nikai, Mayah, Mushka, Mishka, Akiyah, and Ilannak; and her cat, Cinder, who brought her immense joy and companionship.

In her early years, Sonja’s life was enriched by her time spent in Indiana and Michigan, before her adventurous spirit led her to explore new horizons across the country. Ultimately, she found her heart’s home out west. From a young age, Sonja was an artist at heart, expressing her love through painted and drawn masterpieces that she shared with those closest to her. Her artistic talents blossomed over the years, evolving into multimedia art and a passion for baking that was as creative as it was delicious. Sonja’s elaborate holiday baking was a highlight for her loved ones, who eagerly anticipated her edible works of art. Her hand-painted sugar cookie snowflakes and intricate sugar eggs with Easter scenes were a testament to her artistic flair, while her Baklava and Lemon Meringue pies were legendary. In later years, her fudge and handmade truffles became another delicious chapter in her culinary repertoire.

Beyond her artistic and culinary talents, Sonja was known for the warmth of her heart. She had a remarkable ability to befriend those who needed a companion, often reaching out to individuals others might have overlooked. Her kindness and empathy were a source of comfort and inspiration to many.
