Stephen R. Peterson, 75, of Idaho Falls, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

Stephen was born on December 7, 1942, to Reuben and Ida Braegger Peterson, in Shelley, Idaho. He grew up in the Firth/Goshen area on the family farm where we learned to work hard and graduated from Firth High School in 1962.

He joined the Army National Guard on November 27, 1965, serving for 12 years.

On August 6, 1966, he married Denise Cutler they had one son and later divorced. On July 3, 1974, he married Joan Peterson in Idaho Falls.

Stephen worked as a mechanic in Blackfoot, Idaho and at the INL as a Process Operator then eventually Senior Trainer. He became a professional truck driver after retiring from INL.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. He served as the Sunday School president and as the stake Audio/Visual specialist.

Stephen had many skills and hobbies including flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, downhill skiing, working on muscle cars, woodworking, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and pretty much anything outdoors.

We will always remember his sense of humor, his numerous outdoor adventures and his friendly, selfless nature.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Peterson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sons: Pete (Katrina) Peterson of Chandler, Arizona, Ryan Richardson of Roy, Utah; Trever (Miriah) Peterson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sister, Aileen (Burt) McCurdy of Beaverton, Oregon; his brother-in-law, Ralph Brower of Layton, Utah; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws and his sister, Jean.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Cedar Ridge LDS Ward, 3195 S. Holmes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
