Obituary

Steven Loyd Weekes, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 3, 2012, at his home following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Steve was born April 27, 1930, in Sunnydell, Madison County, Idaho, to Cyril Weekes and Ivy Allen Weekes. He was the youngest of five children. As a child, Steve, lived the life of Huckleberry Finn spending his days playing on the Snake River and running through the woods. He attended grade school at Sunnydell's one-room schoolhouse and later at Madison High School. Steve served in the United States Army from November 1950 to November 1952. He spent most of his time in the service in Germany as a mechanic on military vehicles. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education at ISU studying electronics. On October 29, 1954, he married Glenda Merrill in Rigby, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Steve worked for various contractors at the INL site in Idaho Falls, Idaho; spent 10 years in Richland, Washington, working at the Hanford site, and then returned to Idaho Falls to work at the Chemical Processing Plant at the INL. He retired in 1992. He had a passion for golf and spent many wonderful hours with his golf buddies on the golf course. He loved to be outdoors fishing on the South Fork, floating the river, hiking and camping with his family. He liked to travel to new places and visit his children. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda; his children: KayLynn Hackett of Idaho Falls and Rodney S. Weekes (Lisa) of Spokane, Washington; his sister, Verla Jones of Los Altos, California; 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Steve was preceded in death by his sons: Jeffrey and Eric; his parents, his brother, Frank; his sisters, Mona and Ethel; and a grandson, Jarom. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Friday evening, April 6, 2012, from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the services both at Coltrin Mortuary.
