IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Rule
Dawley
September 19, 1947 – December 8, 2018
Susan (West/Rule) Dawley, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018, at her home after a 5-year journey with Alzheimer's. She was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice. Susi was born on September 19, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Thomas Lynwood West and Bonita (Barrick) West. After her parents divorced, Susi moved to Boise, Idaho with her mom and little sister, Angela.
Just before her 12 th birthday, Susi's mom remarried Don Rule from St. Anthony. The new family moved to St. Anthony where Susi attended 6 th grade through graduation from South Fremont High School. During those years she was blessed with 6 more siblings—after the birth of 2 more sisters, 4 more children were welcomed through adoption.
The summer after graduation Susi attended a Campus Crusade for Christ retreat in Arrowhead Springs, California. It was a trip that changed her life and eternal destiny. After a week of listening to Bill Bright and other Bible preachers, Susi gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ. Her faith grew deeper throughout her adult life and now she will be able to join her Lord in the glories of Heaven.
Susi married her high school sweetheart, Jeff Taylor, in October 1965. They raised four amazing children: Tate (Jody) Taylor of Stockton, California, Hope (Dave) Goza of Mound City, Kansas, Trevor (Karol) Taylor of Roberts, Idaho, and Lanny (Mimi) Taylor of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jeff and Susi were later divorced but remained close friends.
Susi worked as an Avon lady and bank teller for many years. She was also an accomplished cake decorator and party planner. She loved family "get-togethers" and hosted the eagerly anticipated annual summer luau. Susi is best remembered for her artistic talents. Her paintings and craft projects were spectacular.
In 1996, she married Chuck Dawley in a private ceremony in Hawaii. They made their home in Idaho Falls where Chuck worked at the INEL. When they retired, Susi began an exciting life of travel. She loved spending time at Chuck's little cottage in Donnelly, Idaho and taking RV trips in their motor home. They took some cruises and spent many fun winters in Arizona.
Susi is survived by her husband Chuck; her four children and Chuck's four children: Michelle (Andy) Drexler of Battle Ground, Washington, Monica (Mike) Cassidy of Stevensville, Montana, Marcy (Mark) Dawley-Reese of Donnelly, Idaho, and Michael Dawley of Meridian, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Susi is also survived by her siblings: Angela (Fred) Miyasaki, Heidi (Terry) Hawkins, Holly Rule, Mary (Mitch) Bingham. Peter Rule, Paul (Maribel) Rule and Teri Rule. She was preceded in death by both parents.
