Obituary

Susan Horwith, 70, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 24, 2015. She was born Susan Martha Elder on November 2, 1944, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the only child of Archibald and Lottie Niessing Elder. As the child of a military father, she lived in numerous places including Puerto Rico and graduated from Lawton High School in Oklahoma at the age of 16. A math genius, she attended Arizona State Univeristy on a full academic scholarship. After moving to California in the late 60's, she worked for IBM and the Bank of America as a system's analyst in the days of mainframe computers and male-dominated computer science. After devoting time to full-time child raising, she returned to school at Cal State Northridge and became a certificated teacher and taught high school and college mathematics. She retired from full-time teaching and moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 2005, and continued to teach part-time at Idaho State University and tutor students privately. In her final years, she devoted her time to her family and various volunteer work. She gave so much of her time to the Bishop's Storehouse, the Idaho Falls temple, became a hospice volunteer and had always wanted to go on an LDS mission. She loved travel, reading, science fiction, gardening, music, geneology, and anything to do with her family and faith. She also enjoyed puzzles, Soduko, and her weekly card games with her girlfriends. She had six children: Vicki Daggy (Aaron), Joy Huffman Buchanan (Brad), Deborah Horwith, Ted Horwith, Jon Horwith, and Jennifer Horwith. She had seven grandchildren: Alexandra Daggy, Tyler Daggy, Ysabel Horwith, Beatrix Buchanan, Matilda Buchanan, Theia Perez, Grayson Colllier, and another grandson due at Christmas. Susan was a devoted mother and grandmother and was very committed to her church community. She enjoyed every day of her life and left a lasting mark on all those who knew her. She will be missed but never forgotten. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Iona LDS 3rd Ward, 5169 Denning Ave, Iona. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place at the Iona Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
