Obituary

Wm. Theodore (Ted) Steinman, 79, of Ammon, died Friday, September 8, 2017, at his home. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

Ted was born on March 31, 1938, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Rudolf Theodore and Venna Stewart Steinman. His early years were spent on the family farm south of Ashton. As an 11 year-old, his life changed quickly when he left his Daddy in the corral and came back to find him dead. He attended school in Ashton until he moved to Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School.

Ted was employed by Safeway for 10 years before going to work at Argonne National Lab., where he worked for 30 years, riding the bus back and forth each day.

He enjoyed camping, listening to music, making models, woodworking. He was a handyman and had the attitude: "Someone put it together, I can take it apart and fix it." He had very good hand/eye coordination. He loved serving others and trips to visit his grandchildren.

In November 1956, he married LaRue Jeffs, the mother of his children: Gwen, Teddi, and Glenn. They were later divorced.

Ted married Ann Parker Johnson and her daughter, Becky, in November 1971. They made their home in Idaho Falls and Ammon. Ted and Ann got to be sealed Together Forever in August 2006, a long wait.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various ward callings, but especially enjoyed his services in the nursery as "Grandpa Teacher", and having his little ones come sit on his lap during other meetings. Ted was always a dedicated Home Teacher and he loved his families. Ted and Ann got to serve two missions, first to the Idaho Falls Visitor's Center and then the Idaho Falls Family History Center. Most recently, they got to serve together at BYU-Idaho where he served in a Bishopric. Their highlight calling was their service in the Idaho Falls Temple as officiators for over 16 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Steinman, of Ammon, Idaho; his children: Gwen (Mark) Lords, of Heber, Utah, Teddi (Douglas) Schwabedissen, of Kimberly, Idaho, Glenn (Zorina) Steinman, of American Fork, Utah; his step-daughter, Becky (Don) Hatfield, of Franklin, Idaho; his sisters: Betty Schwendiman, of Burley, Idaho and Patsy (Tony) Costello, of Tooele, Utah; his sister-in-law, Alma Steinman, of Ashton, Idaho; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack; his grandson, Brandon Steinman; and his great-granddaughter, Julia Schwabedissen.
