Theodore Fred "Ted" Whitmoyer, 87, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Ted was born on June 30, 1926, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Lester Ellwood Whitmoyer and Esther Mary Wunderlick. He grew up in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey. In 1944, he graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, Pennsylvania. He attended West Chester State Teacher's College in Pennsylvania in 1946. Then he attended the University of Colorado from 1947-1951 where he earned his Bachelor's degree. He earned his Master of Science degree from Michigan State where he attended from 1954-1956. He served in the U. S. Navy as an electronic engineer from 1944-1946. On August 25, 1956, he married Caroline Elizabeth Beitzel in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They later divorced. On September 1, 1978, he married Joan Elizabeth Peterson in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ted spent 32 years as a Park Ranger in Zion, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Utah's Dinosaur National Monument. He served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Temple Square Visitors Guides, Kentucky Louisville Mission where Ted served as a Branch President, and as a Chaplain at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg. Ted was the Mayor of Boulder City, Nevada, at one time. He enjoyed sailing as well as photography and dark room which he been awarded many trophies. Ted was a gentle, kind, smart and humble man who will be greatly missed. He is survived by the following: Wife, Joan Whitmoyer of Ammon; Sons: Chad Skinner and Kris Skinner both of Idaho Falls; Jay (Andrea) Weatherston of Corpus Christi, Texas; Paul (Dawn) Whitmoyer of Boulder City, Nevada; and Dan (Corina) Whitmoyer of Grand Ledge, Michigan; 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Jody Skinner; a brother, Dr. Robert Whitmoyer and a sister, Betty Preston. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Ammon LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 4375 E. Sunnyside Rd. with Bishop's Counselor, Randy Crisler conducting. The family will visit with friends Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
