Obituary

Thomas Stephen Stosich, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021, at The Homestead Assisted Living in St. Anthony.

Thomas was born on September 17, 1941, the third child and third son of what was to become eleven children of Vaughn Thomas and Esther Smith Stosich. The family lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

He attended Eagle Rock grade school, Central Middle school, O. E Bell Jr. High, and then graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959.  He was always interested in singing. He had a gifted voice. He was a member of the choir. Mr. Aupperle, the choir director, had him in two special singing groups. He was in a quartet called "The 4 Flats" and also "The Sweet Sixteen" group. They sang and performed regularly. He also became skilled at playing the viola which he enjoyed throughout his life.

He started attending BYU and then took a break to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was called to Bavaria, Austria to serve for two-and-a-half years. He returned to BYU and graduated in the Spring of 1969 with a bachelor of fine arts. During his BYU days, he also met and married Sherry Jaynes in 1965 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

After graduating from BYU, he was accepted into the Academia of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, Austria. He and his family arrived in Vienna in the Fall of 1969. They eventually had six children.

After four years in Vienna, he graduated from the Academy. He then signed a two-year singing contract for the City Opera House in Bielefeld, Germany. When that contract ended, he next signed a two-year singing contract for the State Opera in Wiesbaden, Germany. He lived with his family in Europe for over eight years.

In 1978 he returned with his family to Provo, Utah where he got a job teaching at BYU in the music department. His marriage with Sherry Jaynes ended that same year in November.

For a brief time, Tom returned to Europe to work and while there had a short marriage to Louisa Pierer. They had a son, Thomas Richard Stosich.

Tom finally returned to Utah and Idaho area. He worked various jobs and was felling and trimming trees and selling firewood for a few years. He met Christine Carol Cole and on March 21, 1986, he had married Christine. She became ill and passed away on February 24, 2001.

He bought property in Hamer, Idaho where he built a home with the help of his sons, especially Stephen and his brothers: Sam, Howard, and Eugene and several others. That home caught fire and burned.

He always loved to raise his fish. He loved fishing and became a skilled fisherman as well. He would fish with any of those willing. He especially enjoyed going with his son and brother, Samuel.

He is survived by his first six children from his wife, Sherry Jaynes, Lisa Ann (Lynn) Van Roosendaal; Katherine Renae (Jamie) Kelsch; John David Stosich (Nora); Roslyn Patrese Ceraso; Robert Vaughn Stosich; and, Stephen Harland Stosich;

Also survived by his seventh child from his second wife, Aloisia Trois, Thomas Richard Stosich who now has two children.

He has 28 grandchildren total and many, many, many nieces and nephews

He is also survived by his siblings and some of their spouses:  Harland, deceased (Donna Holladay) Stosich, Davidjohn Stosich (Adeana Marshall); Esther Patrese Stosich Burke (Richard, deceased); Howard Stosich (Sarah Groesbeck); Samuel Russell Stosich (Leaann Eddins); Eugene Maurice Stosich (Sally Johnson); Ruth Adele Stosich Thuernagle Woolstenhulme (Daryl); Myra Emily Stosich Moses (Lynn); Edward Kim Stosich (Mitzi Hansen); Gary Lynn Stosich (Linda McCaffree).

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harland; his brothers-in-law, Gerald Thuernagle and Richard Burke.

A special thank you to the Homestead Living Center staff in St. Anthony and the hospice nurses who took care of Tom, especially Lane, DeAnn, and Natalie.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, October 1, 2021, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services will be live streamed via Facebook live at www.facebook.com/coltrinmortuary
