Obituary

Valerie Jeanne Cousin, 80, of St. George, Utah and formerly of Shelley, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Seasons Health and Rehabilitation in St. George.

Valerie was born on March 25, 1941, in Shelley, Idaho to Winfield Ardell Cousin and Iva Rose Poll Cousin. She grew up in Shelley and graduated from Shelley High School in 1959. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees from Utah State University.

In December of 1969, she married Dale Baker in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. She married Reynold Rollins and they were later divorced.

After graduating from Utah State she moved to Las Vegas where she taught until her retirement. After retirement, she moved to St. George where she stayed until her death.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful visiting teacher and enjoyed making new friends through her visits.

Valerie loved to take classes offered at UNLV. She was an active member in book clubs and she helped organize a single adult group. She was an avid reader and always had a book in her hand. She enjoyed making cards, soaps, and other crafts that she would share with her family and friends. Valerie LOVED to travel! She went to many countries throughout the world and would collect artifacts from each country. Though she traveled the world, her favorite place to be was at home, surrounded by anything and everything purple, and to be with those she loved, her pet tortoise, her dear friends, and her cherished brother and his family.

She is survived by her brother David (Jeanie) Cousin of Idaho Falls, ID; niece Rachel Cousin of Salt Lake City, UT; nephew Erik Cousin of Eagle Mountain, UT; nephew David Wayne Cousin of Idaho Falls, ID; niece Sara Spaulding of Idaho Falls, ID; niece Pamela Borrup of Springfield, VA; and her niece Megan Snow of Provo, UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Winfield Ardell Cousin and Iva Rose Poll Cousin.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m., prior to services at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com.
