Obituary

Vanessa Raye Young Gruver, 52, of Idaho Falls, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at her home. She was born December 21, 1960, in Cocoa, Florida, the daughter of Ray Arthur Young and Vululu Joy Williams Young. She grew up in Alamogordo, New Mexico, in her early years and then the family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico. She attended Los Alamos High School, then earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business from Idaho State University. On November 29, 1986, she married Gene Lynn Gruver in Nogales, Mexico. They were later divorced. She worked in several different positions at the INL and in the greater Idaho Falls area as well as Rockford, Illinois. Vanessa earned many outstanding performance awards in her field. She worked hard to provide for her family as a single mother. Vanessa became very spiritual in the last years of her life viewing Calvary Chapel sermons at home on Sundays. She was known as a "second mother" to many of her daughter's friends. She was a kind, fun-loving and caring person who extended her love to all the neighborhood kids and friends in need. She loved fashion and aspired to be a clothing designer early in her life. She was often called the "queen of matching." and loved to shop and had the closets to prove it. She enjoyed music, travel, boating, and was an avid reader with enough books to make her own library. Vanessa's only child, Courtney Anne Christine Gruver, wrote about her mother, "My mom was the strongest and most beautiful person I'd ever met. She taught me what kind of mother I want to be and she was my biggest lesson in loving. We are happy for her freedom." She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Anne Christine Gruver (fiancée, Matthew) of Idaho Falls; her mother, Joy W. Young of Idaho Falls; a sister, Alorie Anne (Mitch) Sermon of Idaho Falls; a grandson, August Wade Ray Merrill; a niece, Dancie (fiancée, Shane) Joy Sermon; 2 nephews, Casey Charles Richardson and Levi Ray Sermon; 1 great-nephew, Lyrik and 1 great-niece, Kylah. Vanessa was preceded in death by her father, and her grandparents, Ray and Elizabeth Williams and C.R. and Alorie Young. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
