Obituary

Vera Loree Evans Owens, 83, of Iona, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at her home. Vera was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

She was born August 13, 1924 in Lamesa, Texas to Loree and Winnie Dale Davis Evans.

Vera grew up in Artesia, New Mexico, and graduated from Artesia High School in 1942. After graduation she attended Lubbock Business School in Lubbock, Texas. She married Robert L. Owens Sr. in May, 1944. He was killed in World War II. On Dec. 31, 1949 she married Earl S. Owens in Iona. She and Earl lived in Rexburg, Lewisville, Iona, Ucon, and then to their current home.

After her family was raised she worked as a special education teacher's aid for School District 93 and also worked at a fabric store.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, where she served as the Homemaking Leader, and served as a visiting teacher and in many other capacities.

She enjoyed Boating, fishing, camping, sewing, painting, and listening to a wide variety of music.

She was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, & friend. She was a very generous and giving woman, a great cook and she enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She was a very accomplished seamstress and loved growing beautiful flowers. She was loved very much by her younger brother Jim. Vera was blessed with a sparkling sense of humor and quick wit. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband Earl of Iona, one son, Robert L. Owens Jr. (Fay) of Eunice, New Mexico; 2 daughters; Judy Daw (Dennis) of Osgood, and Kathie Ellis (Sam) of Idaho Falls; 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 at the Iona LDS 3rd Ward, 5169 E. Denning Ave. in Iona. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls and one hour prior to the services at the church.
