Obituary

Verdean Edwin Bodily, 86, of Idaho Falls, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the home of his daughter. He was born April 28, 1926, in Idaho Falls to Dean G. and Etta Nelson Bodily. He grew up in Iona and graduated from Iona High School in 1945. Verdean served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Verna Lee Wright on Feb. 10, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She died in August 2009. Verdean was a well known businessman who owned and operated the Verdean Bodily Oil and Tire Company for many years. Verdean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Texarkana Mission, served as a bishop, served on the High Council and in many other church callings. He loved sports, horses and music from the big-band era. People always said that Verdean Bodily was a man of his word. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie (Ron) Salisbury, Jill (Dan) Harwood and Bonnie (Ron) Carbiener, all of Idaho Falls; son, Mark (Valerie) Bodily of Idaho Falls; brother, Larry (Mary Jane) Bodily of Wendell, Idaho; sisters, Marcene Larsen of Salt Lake City, Opal Craig of Idaho Falls, Shirlene (Jim) Bird of Iona and Shauna (Wallace) Cummings of Idaho Falls; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bud (Jolene) Wright of Idaho Falls, and Carol (Bart) Withers of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Verdean was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Lee Bodily; parents, Dean G. and Etta Bodily; sister, Colleen Hinckley; brothers-in-law, Jay Hinckley and Dave Craig; a nephew, Cary Cummings; and niece, Brenda Withers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Idaho Falls LDS Stake Center, 1155 First St. in Idaho Falls, with President Doug Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday June 15, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho Falls, where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
