Verdus Robbins, 92, of Sandy, Utah, and formerly of Idaho Falls died April 24, 2008, at Crosslands Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Sandy. He had been under the care of Sunbrook Hospice.
He was born November 15, 1915, in Moreland, Idaho, to Ralph G. Robbins and Jennie Tietjen Farnsworth Robbins. He grew up and attended school in Moreland and Pocatello. In 1934, he graduated from Pocatello High School.
On June 10, 1937, he married Elizabeth "Beth" Carver in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. After 70 years of marriage, she died January 20, 2008. He lived in Moreland, Pocatello, Twin Falls and Idaho Falls.
He worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for nearly 42 years before retiring. He worked part-time for Boise Cascade in Idaho Falls.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many positions but enjoyed providing ballroom dance instruction and working with the Boy Scouts.
He was a member and very active in several square dance groups. Dad was a person who loved life and enjoyed being active. He played as hard as he worked. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and good friends at a sporting event, on a hunting trip or fishing his favorite fishing spots at Island Park.
He is survived by the following: son, Edward (Dena) Robbins of Highland, Utah; brother, Leath (Donna) Robbins of Pocatello, Idaho; sister, Lela Mae (Wendell) Schey of Tulelake, California; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beth Robbins; sons, Larry Robbins and Robert Robbins; a brother, R. Myrle Robbins; and a sister, J. Lavern Smith.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the LDS Church on 89 E. 11000 S., in Sandy, Utah, with President Gregory K. Brown officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello, Idaho.
