IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Verlin Dee
Searle
November 29, 1930 – June 4, 2016
He was born November 29, 1930, in Wilford, Idaho, to Vernon LeRoy Searle and Verda McArthur Searle. He grew up in Teton City, Woodville, and Idaho Falls.
He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1948. Verlin attended Idaho State University and Utah State University. He received specialized training through Ford Motor Company. Verlin was a very skilled auto mechanic.
On August 1, 1951, he married Deloris Hill in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Idaho Falls all their married life. Verlin worked with his father and brother at V.L. Searle & Sons Chevron Station located near the Broadway Bridge. In 1976 when the Teton Dam broke, the flood waters were coming through Idaho Falls. In order to prevent the bridge from being washed away, the river was diverted and the Chevron Station became an island. Verlin then went to work for Monte Wight Motors later at Rocky Mountain Toyota in Idaho Falls and then for Madison Ford in Rexburg.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions including Young Men's secretary, Elders Quorum President, financial clerk, counselor in the Bishopric, Stake High Council, High Priest group leader, Bishop, Primary teacher and Temple prep instructor. He and Deloris also served as temple officiators for 7 years before the temple closed.
Verlin helped with the elections for several years. He enjoyed cars, puzzles, solitaire, woodworking, fishing, spending time with his family, teaching grandchildren life's skills and being an all-around handyman. Verlin was a good whistler, usually always wore a hat, enjoyed Dutch Oven cooking and going to the Borg cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Searle of Idaho Falls; a son, Kevin Vee (Sheila) Searle of Rigby; and daughters: Lucinda (Steven Borg) and Julie Ann (Rodney) Olsen both of Idaho Falls; 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Verlin was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dee Searle and a brother, Boyd LeRoy Searle.
