Obituary

Victor Walter Owens, 85, of Ammon, passed away November 7, 2014, at his home. He was born November 18, 1928, in Teton, Idaho, to Mary Isabell Harrison Owens and Thomas Walter Owens. He grew up in Teton and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952, during the Korean War. He was proud of his service and maintained a high level of patriotism throughout his life. He married Wilma Seeley in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 17, 1953. He has lived in Ammon since 1955 and worked at the INL for 41 years as an electrician and electrical engineer. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many positions throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Victor was an outstanding father and grandfather and a great example of service and friendship. He was often found helping neighbors and friends with the installation and repair of electrical projects. He had a contagious sense of humor and an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special and needed. The local lakes and forests were an extension of his own backyard and weekends would find him frequenting his favorite fishing spots. The backcountry of Yellowstone was one of his favorite places and he looked forward to traditional annual trips with his friends and family. He is survived by the following: Wife, Wilma Seeley Owens of Ammon; Son, Steven (Lori) Owens of Auburn, Wyoming; Son, Brent (Faye) Owens of Pocatello; Daughter, Karen Belnap of Salem, Idaho; Daughter-in-law, Doris (Findlay) Jenkins of Iona; Son, Mark (Reji) Owens of Idaho Falls; Son, Eric (Jill) Owens of Chandler, Arizona; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; Brother, Gary (Carol) Owens of Teton; Brother, Jack (Pat) Owens of Wenatchee, Washington and Brother, Rick (Linda) Owens of Idaho Falls. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul D. Owens, his sister, Helen Allen and great grand daughters, Ashlyn, Carissa and May Owens. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at the Ammon LDS 3rd Ward, 2150 Avocet. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Ammon Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Military Honor Guard.
