Edith "Victoria" Messenger, 90, of Idaho Falls, died June 8, 2010, at her home. She had been under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. She was born December 26, 1919, in Moreland, Idaho, to George B. Jolley and Edith Harriet England Jolley. She spent her earliest years in Moreland and Blackfoot. When she was 7, the family moved to Idaho Falls. She attended Idaho Falls High School. On November 20, 1940, she married Harry Mathew Messenger in Pocatello, Idaho. They made their home in Idaho Falls. He passed away Feb. 10, 2004. In the early years of her marriage, she worked as a waitress at the Penguin Café. She and her husband owned and operated Messenger Brick and Stone along with their sons from 1948 to 1988. During this time, she balanced working along with being a mother and homemaker. She started working at Melaleuca at the age of 70 and worked there eleven years until her retirement at the age of 81. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the scouting program and the Primary organization. Quilting, embroidery, crocheting, and gardening were some of her hobbies but her greatest joy was family activities. Victoria was a kind, loving, supportive mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched. She is survived by the following: daughters: Betty Jane Carson of Shelley; Billie (Ben) Cowgill of Idaho Falls; and Barbra (Blaine) Ball of Rigby; sons: Gary (Jeralyn) Messenger and Dale Messenger both of Idaho Falls; 25 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and a sister, Clara Lords of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry; brothers, Bud and Herb Jolley; a sister, Lorna Mickelsen; a daughter, Vickie Walters, and a grandson, Matt Maupin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls with Bishop Blaine Ball officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, and Saturday 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services both at the mortuary.
