Virgil Phillip Jensen, 94, of Idaho Falls, died Oct. 12, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a heart attack.
He was born August 14, 1914, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to John Phillip Jensen and Clara Jorgensen. He grew up in Lower Presto, Idaho, and attended Firth High School.
On Oct. 23, 1934, he married Nelda Jolley in Idaho Falls. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Besides living in Blackfoot and Presto, he lived on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation and at Wappelo, Idaho; Paramount, California; Idaho Falls, and many years in Ammon. He worked as a farm laborer; a trucker, for Douglas Aircraft and Challenge Creamery, as a mechanic, excavator, and for Bonneville County.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held several positions including assistant ward clerk, Elder's Quorum Presidency, home teacher, and he held the office of a high priest.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing; mechanics, camping and he loved animals.
Virgil was an amazing storyteller; we will miss all of your wonderful stories, Dad and Grandpa, and "don't take any wooden nickels."
He is survived by the following: wife, Nelda Jensen of Ammon; daughters: Naida (Clarence) Black of Pocatello; Sharon (Lamar) Frandsen and Linda (Grant) Lees both of Draper, Utah; son, Larry (Jude) Jensen of Idaho Falls; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford M. Jensen.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon, October 15, 2008, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls with David Frandsen officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. October 14, 2008 at Coltrin Mortuary and Wednesday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery.
