Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Virgil J. Valantine.

Born on October 2, 1934, in Beaver, Utah, to Vina Agnes Jones and George Urban Valantine, Virgil spent his early years in Beaver and Caliente, Nevada. As a spirited young boy, he was known for his adventurous streak—often hopping freight trains out of Caliente, only to be sent home once discovered. He shared countless days exploring the hills of Beaver with his younger brother, hunting and making memories that would last a lifetime.

On November 5, 1965, Virgil married the love of his life, Edna Garvin, in Panaca, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful life and moved to Idaho in 1968, where they raised their family with love and resilience.

Virgil's work ethic was unmatched. Over the years, he held many roles—from truck driver to well driller, irrigation installer, and farmer in Hamer, Idaho. One of his most memorable moments came while driving his truck in Los Angeles, where he heroically saved a baby who had fallen from a car. Though ticketed for stopping traffic, his selfless act remains a testament to his character.

Later in life, Virgil worked for Clark County Road and Bridge, eventually retiring to enjoy the simple pleasures of life—tending to his lawn and cherishing time with Edna.

Virgil was deeply committed to public service. He was elected President of Clark County Search and Rescue in 1983 and held the position for many years, successfully integrating the local unit into the state organization. He was also an active member of  the Civil Air Patrol, assisting in countless airplane searches. His dedication to Clark County was unwavering, and he was proud to call it home, even serving on the Dubois City Council and as director of the Civil Defense.

He is survived by his devoted wife Edna Valantine, and their children: Monty (Vicki) Valantine, Leann (Terry) Tuckett, Duane (Jill) Valantine, Melissa McNiel, and sister Peggy (Tom) Rowe.   He was preceded in death by his Parents George Valantine and Vina Jones Nielson, and
brothers Kenneth Richard and Carlos Valantine.

Virgil leaves behind a legacy of love through 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and an ever-growing number of great-great-grandchildren.

His life was a tapestry of grit, generosity, and joy. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent online at www.coltrinmortuary.com
