Obituary

Wanda Williams Whittier, 91, died Sept 12, 2013 of a short illness at her home in Idaho Falls with her family by her side. She was born June 16, 1922, to Elmer H. and Verda Hannah Ball Williams in Shelton, Idaho. When she was young she lived near the Heath Railroad Siding in Shelton and went to the Buck Elementary School. She went to the Ucon High School. While in high school her family moved to Idaho Falls where she graduated from Idaho Falls High School. After graduation she went to work for the telephone office as a switchboard operator. When World War II broke out she was a supervisor. She married LaMar H. Whittier in the Salt Lake LDS Temple September 17, 1945. After Lamar was discharged form the army they farmed in Rockland, Idaho. They moved to Mackay, Idaho, in December of 1962 where they owned and operated Frank's Steak House and Motel and a Conoco Service Station until they retired. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Relief Society as a secretary, counselor and as President and also worked in the Primary and Young Women's Organizations in many positions. She did many Humanitarian projects as well. She was always looking at ways to make something out of worn out or no longer useful clothing. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery work, traveling and being with her family. She crocheted many Afghans and did quilts for every grandchild. Much of her handiwork can be seen in many homes besides her families. She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Kay) Taylor of Idaho Falls and sons: Paul (Shanna) Whittier of Missoula, Montana, and Glen (Dayna) Whittier of Highland Ranch, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Jan (David) Hansen of Boise, Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a brother, Mark (Rose) Williams of Casper, Wyoming; sisters-in-law: LuDean Williams of Blackfoot, Idaho; LaRae (Robert) Ferguson and Ora Whittier both of Idaho Falls, and Melba Moore of Boise, Idaho; brothers-in-law: Logan Barnard of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Karl Whittier of Pocatello, Idaho. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Rex, Max, Donald and a sister, Larae; sons: Kent H., Brent M., and Kevin M.; a grandson, Adam K. Whittier; and a great grandson, Luke H. Taylor. A special thanks to Encompass Hospice especially, Cindy, Monica and Dawn. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Wednesday, September 18, 2013, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary and Thursday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Valley View Cemetery in Rockland, Idaho. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com
