Wayne Aiman, 95, lifelong resident of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho.
Wayne was born October 13, 1922, in St Anthony, Idaho to Harvey Franklin Aiman & Mattie Kearney Aiman. He was the 8th of 9 children and spent most of his childhood in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Jackson Hole, Wyoming and San Diego California.
Wayne served in the Army from February 1943 to January 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as part of the 11th Airborne Division. He volunteered and trained as a paraglider and as a paratrooper. He earned a combat infantrymen's badge, glider badge, parachutist badge, and 2 bronze stars.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Nina Blanche Neilson, in Idaho Falls on May 23, 1942. They were married for 69 years. They had one daughter, Linda and one son, Gary. After Wayne retired at age 62, they lived in St George during the winter for 20 years.
He was the owner of Aiman's Market on Cliff Street and moved his business to Aiman's Superette/Wholesale Meats on 1st street in Idaho Falls. He was an expert meat cutter and continued to cut wild game until he was in his 90's.
He loved fishing, bowling, golfing, spoiling his grandchildren and was a lifelong member of the Elks Club. He was a very generous and giving person, had an exceptional sense of humor and was the king of one liners. Wayne loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by his children: Linda Aiman of Black Forest, CO, and Gary (Cynthia) Aiman of Rexburg, ID, 5 grandchildren, Alysia (Greg) Kinney of Rexburg, ID, Jessica (Greg) Cox of Lee's Summit, MO, Tami (Aaron) Cengiz of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Lori (David) Valdez of Idaho Falls, ID, Greg (Marie) Aiman of Louisville, KY and 17 ½ great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Floyd and Russell and sisters Thelma Acord, Lola Gardner, Opal Brown, Jean Gardner and 2 infant siblings.
The family would like to thank dad's compassionate caregivers-Dr Craig Heiner, Encompass Home Health Nurses and aids, and the loving staff at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
