Wesley was born on June 27, 1939, to William "Mack" Guymon and Doloris Harmon Guymon at the home of his Grandfather Harmon's home in Milo, Idaho. He was proud to be named after his two grandfathers, Louis Wesley Guymon and Lorenzo Barnes Harmon. He was the first grandchild on the Harmon side. While in Florida, he was able to witness the first rocket launch into space.
Returning from his mission, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1962 to 1966. After basic training, he was stationed in England and was able to visit Germany and France.
