Obituary

William "Wild Bill" Lee Boggs, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away on July 2, 2024, after a valiant battle with pneumonia.

Bill was born in Oakland, California, graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland, California. He graduated from California State University-Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Resources.  Bill was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent many years fishing and hiking.

Bill served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S. Albert David.  He was an active Boy Scout.  He was a competitive swimmer in high school, played the clarinet in the marching band, and played the piano in the jazz band.

Bill worked during high school on the Blister Rust eradication program in Northern California.  After college, went to work for the Forest Service in California, Oregon, and Washington as an Outdoor Recreation Manager.  He retired in Idaho Falls working for the Bureau of Land Management as an Outdoor Recreation Planner.  He was honored with many awards for his work on protecting and improving recreation and wilderness areas on federal Lands.  One of his awards was the 2010 Department of Interior Legends Award for his commitment to outstanding outdoor recreation activities.

Bill loved hiking and fishing and shared these interests with his friends and family.  His wife, Janice, was often dismayed on hikes with his assurance that their destination was "just around the next corner."

Bill loved and cherished the time spent with friends and his family, especially watching all the grandkids try their best at fishing and sports.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Boggs; mother, Claudia Tsiganoff Boggs; and sister, Helen Boggs Brenzel.  He is survived by his wife, Janice Boggs; his son, Justin (Kelly) Boggs; his daughter, Ashley (Ron) Demmer; his daughter, Corene (Bryan) Young; and nine cherished grandchildren.

The family requests no flowers or food but instead that you donate to your favorite charity, Community Food Basket of Idaho Falls, the American Heart Institute, or a trails/wilderness non-profit in your area.

There will be a private family celebration of life.  The family asks that you celebrate Bill's life with your family enjoying the outdoors.  Cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
