Obituary

William McAdoo Gibson, 90, of Idaho Falls, died August 17, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born November 24, 1918, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Albert Henry Gibson and Dora D. Hickman. He was raised in Ft. Worth and later served with the 96th Infantry Division on Okinawa from 1944-1945. He earned the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. His division was awarded two Presidential Citations. His L' Company was awarded a citation by the Commander of the 10th Army. On November 8, 1939, he married Bernice Marie Coffman in Las Vegas, Nevada. She died August 26, 1996. They lived in Texas, California, and Idaho. He was a commercial truck driver of gasoline and propane products. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and was known by his friends as the #1 fisherman. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He lived his life with honor and integrity, and had a great love for his family and his country. He is survived by the following: daughter, Rosalyn Marie (Kent) McCandless of Idaho Falls; 2 sisters: Margaret (Ted) Pinger of Leucadia, California, and Dora Parry of Landisberg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Kim (Reuben) Wilson and Jill McCandless of Idaho Falls; and Melanie (Matt) Novak of Oakley, California; great-grandchildren: Cody Wilson of Salt Lake City, Brandee Wilson of Idaho Falls, Amber Wilson of Boise, Devin and Alex Novak of Oakley, California.. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, William M. Gibson Jr. a sister, Judy Jones; 2 brothers: Clarence and Mickey Gibson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Chapel in the Valley, in Swan Valley with Pastor Laura Baarda officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday, August 21, 2009, from 7-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Swan Valley Fire Department Special Equipment Fund, P.O. Box 240, Swan Valley, Idaho 83449.
