William 'Bill' Oliver Gundert, 75, of Idaho Falls, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his home with his wife by his side. He was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.
Bill was born on December 15, 1941, to Marvin E. and Lily Muscio Gundert in Lodi, California. He was the oldest of two boys. He grew up in the Lodi area and graduated from Lodi High School in 1959. He earned his BA in Liberal Arts from the Sacramento State College.
On August 1, 1966, he joined the United States Navy. He was part of the elite US Naval Band, where he played the baritone and trombone. He served in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1969.
He married Rhonda Kay Griess on June 14, 1975, in Lodi, California. They had 2 boys: Jason and Brian. While living in Lodi Bill worked for Goehring Meat Company. In 1983, they moved their family to Idaho Falls and Bill worked for Century 21 until his retirement in 2004.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Bill enjoyed hunting in general however, hunting ducks was his favorite and he was able to enjoy one last season this year. He enjoyed fishing, painting and carving decoys. He was happiest when he was camping with his grandchildren at Birch Creek. He will be missed, and always remembered by all who loved him, and those that were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Gundert of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sons: Jason Gundert of Rexburg, Idaho and Brian Gundert of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his grandchildren: Tony, Ramona, Lis, Alex and Clayton; and his brother, Roger (Deborah) Gundert of Iona, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Marvin and Lily Gundert; his nephew, Jeffery Gundert, and his daughter-in-law, Anna Gundert.
