William "Bill" J. Carhill, 94, of Idaho Falls, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, at his home. Aspen Home Health assisted the family with his care.
He was born December 27, 1921, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Arphonso "Jack" Carhill and Rhoda Strong Carhill. He grew up in Los Angeles, and when he was 13 years old, the family moved to Idaho Falls where he lived and attended schools. Bill graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He joined the Merchant Marines and attended Officers Training School where he became a First Mate.
On September 7, 1949, he married Betty Marie Thomas in Nevada.
Bill was a member of the Methodist Church.
He enjoyed stamp collecting, camping, traveling and all kinds of sports. When his boys were younger, he coached Little League Baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Carhill of Idaho Falls; daughter, Sally J. Stoddard of St. Louis, MO; sons: Daniel G. (Michelle) Carhill of Idaho Falls and Michael D. (Yoko) Carhill of McLean, VA; granddaughters: Carly (Corey) Anderson of Scottsdale, AZ; Nikky (Isaac) Carhill of Mesa, AZ; Yuri (Michael) Carhill of McLean, VA; Jessica (Tim) Zyk of St. Louis, MO; grandson, Beau (Darcy) Carhill of Mesa, AZ; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Kenneth (Lynelle) Carhill of Los Angeles, CA.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt and uncle, Bill and Myrtle McCaw, who were like second parents to him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls with Gary Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
