IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
Lorin Whipple
November 15, 1945 – June 18, 2018
William Lorin Whipple, better known as Bill, passed away from post-surgical complications on June 18, 2018. He was born to Walter LeGrand and Erline Whipple on November 15, 1945, in Logan, Utah, while his father was serving in WWII. He did not formally receive a name until he was six months old, because his dad was deployed.
Bill grew up in Idaho Falls on North Boulevard which he endearingly called North Beanyard. He always joked that his cars ran on beanaline, their cat was named Beans, and his brothers were named Bean Blossom and Bean Sprout. He attended Idaho Falls High School and graduated in 1964. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1965 to 1967 in the British South Mission. Bill married Emily Elizabeth Wanlass June 7, 1968, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before his passing. Bill and Emily have 5 boys and 4 girls. They view their children as their greatest accomplishment. Everything Bill did, he did for his family. He used to joke that since he chose to have 9 children he had to have 9 jobs.
Bill worked for his father as an electrician and earned his Journeyman certification before leaving on his mission. He went on to become an electrical contractor which helped provide for his family over the years. He worked for 15 years in newspaper circulation at The Post Register and continued his connection to the paper by helping his 9 kids deliver numerous paper routes over a span of 19 years. Bill earned an associate degree from Ricks College, a BBA from Idaho State University, and an MBA from University of Idaho. He started teaching in 1969 and taught for 33 years with a majority of those years at Bonneville High School in the business department. Teaching was a passion for him and kept him young at heart. Because of his influence, many of his students left with a love of Dr. Pepper and the Simpsons cartoons. Bill also served in the community as a Licensed Public Accountant from 1971 until his death. All of these occupations forged a strong connection to the community.
Bill was an avid car collector. He belonged to the Corvette Club and the Goldwing Road Riders Association. While teaching, he was the advisor for Business Professionals of America. He was excellent at practical and theoretical accounting. Bill also served in many positions in the LDS church over his lifetime. He played the trombone, euphonium, baritone, tuba, sousaphone, banjo, guitar, and snootflute. He shared his love of music with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Emily; his 4 brothers: Walter, Weldon, Wilford, and Wesley Whipple; his 9 children: Ian (Tania) Whipple, Quinn (Emily) Whipple, Graham (Devon) Whipple, Heather (Rob) Maynes, Meg (JJ) Seamons, Nathan (Jennifer) Whipple, Maryann (Chris) Ogden, Amanda (Joey) White, and Derek (Brooke) Whipple. Bill's pride and joy was his 33 grandchildren.
He considered himself a wealthy man whose wealth was his family. He was a beloved father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his wife, his family, and all who knew him.
