He was born April 28, 1926, in Rexburg Idaho. He was the fifth child of James Smart Webster and Floretta Ricks Webster. Bill attended school in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School. He was the only person going to Madison High at that time to receive letters in all three sports, basketball, football and track during his Junior year.
On August 14, 1944 he married Bellevina Boehlke in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Bill and Bellevina were blessed with three children. Bruce Webster, Pam Webster (Steve) Zweifel, and Mitchell Webster. Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Cubmaster and in the Elders Quorum and Sunday School Presidencies.
Bellevina passed away suddenly in April,1966. Bill married Jane Bailey Bingham on December 13, 1967. Jane's two sons, Michael and David completed the family.
Bill served two years in the Navy, most of which was aboard the USS Randall. Bill was a respected farmer on the Rexburg bench, beginning in the spring of 1946 and continuing until he sold the farm in 1990. He raised potatoes and grain. Bill helped to get the legislation passed that created the Idaho Wheat Commission and served on the Board of Directors of the Madison County Wheat Growers. He was also President of both the Rexburg Lions Club, and National Potato Promotion Board. In addition, he served on the National Potato Council, and was nominated by the Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the Advisory Committee of PACA.
After retirement Bill and Jane moved from Rexburg to Idaho Falls. They spent many winters in Arizona.
It was once said that Bill and Jane were never farther apart than when one or the other of them would go to retrieve a golf ball. Bill credited Jane with being a devoted wife and taking good care of him in sickness and in health.
Bill loved his family very much. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.
Bill enjoyed reminiscing about the history of Rexburg and of his family. He was instrumental in contributing personal family items from early Rexburg history to the Rexburg Flood Museum. He also played an important roll in donating the steam engine that is displayed at Smith Park in Rexburg. Last November, he personally built and installed seats for the steam engine to represent the originals.
Bill was well known for his honesty and integrity. Many turned to him for advice and direction. He was knowledgeable in all aspects of life. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane, and four children: Pam (Steve) Zweifel, of Idaho Falls, Mitch Webster of Mesa Arizona, David (Janell) Bingham of Idaho Falls and Michael Bingham of Handford, California, 23 grandchildren 29 great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife Bellevina and son Bruce Webster.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Ammon 6th Ward Building at 2150 Avocet, in Ammon with Bishop Randy Hurley, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans' Teams and the Idaho Honor Guard.
