She was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Grant, Idaho to Rolla C. and Eda Ellen Webster Hix. She grew up and attended schools in Grant and Midway.
On October 29, 1940, she married Carl Cook, in the Logan LDS Temple. Carl died on the family farm in 1966. On June 4, 1971, Zelda married M. Ben Hymas in Idaho Falls. They have been happily married for 35 years. They kicked up their heels at several dances in the area and enjoyed traveling.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in the presidencies of the Relief Society, Young Women's, Primary and Jr. Sunday School. She also served in the Scouting Program. She and Ben served in the Stake Extraction Program for 13 months and a mission in the Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Mission. They worked in the Idaho Falls Temple for 11 years.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, and was known for the number of quilts and afghans she made for members of her ward and for the LDS Church Humanitarian Center.
Zelda's family and friends loved and respected her for the beautiful person she was; she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Hymas, of Iona, Id., and by her children Janae (Clinton) Perry, of Glenns Ferry, ID; Richard "Rick" (Tonia) Cook, of Ammon, ID; Loralee (Don) Center, Highlands Ranch, CO; Rulan (Kathy) Cook, of Grant, ID; Richard "Dick" (Betty) Hymas, Everett, WA; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Hymas, Iona, ID; 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her first husband, Carl Cook; an infant daughter, Sheryl Eda; step-son, Jerry Ben Hymas, and siblings: Leland Hix, Severn Hix Marchant, Ray Hix, Lowell Hix, Milburn Hix, Edna Hix Riniker, and Gayle Hix.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, at the Iona LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, corner of the Iona Rd and Ririe Highway, with Bishop Ken Wrightson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls and Friday at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery.
